Licensure - Captial Gains or AQUE program - Admission and Application
Checklist
 |
Applicant
is employed as
a teacher in a DC Public or DC
Public Charter School. OR Applicant has an offer of employment
from a DC Public or DC Public Charter School. Applicant, if accepted,
must
remain
an
employee of DC Schools for the duration of the program. |

Applicant
is working
in the grade or subject that he/she will be receiving licensure.
Applicant must continue teaching at this grade level or in
this subject for the duration of the program.
Applicants
for the Elementary Education program must be working in
a grade 1-6 classroom. We cannot accept teachers working
in
Pre-K
or
K teachers.
Applicants
for the Secondary
Education program must be working in a grade 7-12 classroom
in one of the following subject areas: English,
mathematics, social studies, biology, chemistry, physics,
French, German, Spanish,
dance or theater.
These
grade requirements are governed by state licensure regulations.

Applicant
must submit official transcripts (in a university sealed envelope,
no photocopies) from all universities
previously attended. |
 |
For
the Secondary Education Program, applicant is required to have
either a BA/BS in the subject area for which he/she is seeking
licensure
or have completed at least 33 credit hours in that discipline. |
 |
For
the Elementary Education Program, applicant is required to have
taken a number of content courses such as math, history, english,
social studies, science, etc. These courses are usually completed
in an applicant's undergraduate career. A transcript review will
be completed after the applicant is accepted to determine if
applicant will need to take any additional courses. |

Applicant
must earn passing scores (as set
by the DC teacher licensing agency) on both the Praxis
I exam
and the appropriate content area Praxis II exam
for program admission.

Passing

are required before the completion of the program.

Applicant
must submit a one-page
letter of intent addressing the applicant's:
goals
as a teacher in DC Schools,
teaching
qualifications,
desire
and commitment to participate in the program,
availability
to participate in all program courses and support activities,
and
how,
if selected, he/she envisions using
the knowledge and resources gained through the program
to advance the quality of teaching in DC Schools.

Applicant
must submit two
letters of recommendation. If applicant is currently teaching,
one letter of recommendation must be from his/her school
administrator
or principal. |
